 Results: It worked fine, and on the default smiley set, I haven't seen it
 since. I changed back to my custom smiley set (a mix of Pidgin Original
 and the Skype smilies) a few minutes ago, and I've seen the problem twice
 already.

 BTW, I know the problem isn't with my custom set specifically, because the
 same thing happens with Pidgin Original. I haven't tried any other sets,
 though.
