 How about this:
 when a WM_LBUTTONUP is detected we wait a few milliseconds (the time of a
 doubleclick). If doubleclick comes we go for it, otherwise, if we go in
 timeout we go for the single click action.
 Nobody will care about waiting a few milliseconds. What do you think?
