Comment:

 pidgin should never have saved the IM window position anywhere other than
 on Windows, that it did this for a little while was a bug that has since
 been corrected. It is properly the job of the window manager to
 assign/control/remember window locations, though most do not allow for
 this (metacity among those that do not). There are third-party tools which
 can be used to work around this limitation such as
 [http://burtonini.com/blog/computers/devilspie Devil's Pie] and my
 (largely untested) [http://unreliablesource.net/luaspie luaspie] clone.
