 Setting Tools-Preferences-Interface option to "Close conversations with
 the Escape key" spawns random windows.

 Often the 'Select background Color" or Select text color window, and
 sometimes multiple windows.
 Spawned window closed if you subsequently uncheck the box.

 If symptoms do not appear, close preferences window and re-open. 50%
 chance of occurrence, with 95% reoccurrence with the preference window
 open.
