Oh, and one more thing... This used to work until 1 week ago or so...
because I had statuses with links before. Today, I tried to install the
following releases:
Pidgin 2.0 - No luck with install. Missing dependency ...0 and I had ...1
because I have Ubuntu Hardy
Pidgin 2.3.1
Pidgin 2.4.0
Pidgin 2.4.1
Pidgin 2.4.2 ... all with the same result, no status change when having a
www or http in status.
Then I thought it might be the fact that in the XML the status is stored
with no quotes or something like that and that it might throw an error
when it finds a / in the link. Still, that does not explain why 'http'
alone doesn't work (with or without quotes, double quotes or plain text).
So, given all that, I think the problem relies not on the client, but,
rather, on the server. It might just be the case that Yahoo servers does
not allow links in status unless they are sure it's their client (since
the problem is reported only for this client). I google-ed arround and
found this article which shocked me a bit... so, I thought you might be
interested: [http://www.kalpiknigam.com/blog/2007/12/27/yahoo-censoring-
status-messages/]
Again, I hope I could help because this is trully annoying for me and I am
sure it is for you too. :P
