 Ctrl-Shift does not work in Pidgin either.  The Unicode character for the
 degree symbol is 0176 or 00B0.  Typing Alt-0176 does nothing, typing alt-
 00B0 does nothing, and typing Ctrl-Shift-B0 or Ctrl-Shift-00B0 also do
 nothing.
