This is reported by a Vietnamese Windows user (I'm translating):

Using Unikey 4.0RC1, Windows XP Pro SP2, Pidgin 2.4.2, you can't input
 Vietnamese accented characters in Pidgin.

Unikey is input software for Vietnamese, a language almost completely
composed of accented characters, including combined diacritics. The
accents distinguish meaning, so it is essential that we can enter them.

When using Pidgin and Unikey, when you try to add accents to vowels,
Pidgin deletes the vowel instead of adding the accent. For example:

 1. If you type "ca", you get "ca". No problems.

 2. If you add another "a", which should add a circumflex accent to the
"ca" (making it "câ"), you get only "c": Pidgin deletes the original "a"
 instead.

 3. if you type ca, then type a "j" (which would add a dot under the
character: cạ), the "c" is deleted, so you're left with nothing.

This is sort of the opposite of normal typing: the more you type, the less
 text you get!

Please tell us if you need more info, and when you need something tested.
 Thankyou.
