 I see the same problem, but not on initial startup of Pidgin.  Instead I
 get this issue when I resume my laptop from standby when pidgin was
 previously connected (before going into standby).  The crash report I get
 (pidgin.RPT) looks identical in terms of the stack trace and seems to be
 related.  Note that this only occurs when I have my Google Talk account
 enabled and doesn't seem to care whether my AIM account is enabled or not.
