 I would like to restate, if you enable (check) the "Close IMs immediately
 when the tab is closed" option, this behavior does not happen.  This
 applies to 2.4.0 as well it seems.

 If you disable this feature (so IM conversations are remembered for a
 brief time) the bug shows back up.
