 thanks for your input. I am however still of the opinion that whatever
 height the input window gets "automatically", it will be the wrong size
 for some people.

 The whole message window is resizeable not only because it is a window,
 but because requirements of people differ. So do they for the input
 window. Some people like to send short comments, others may post a
 fragment of code, while still others want to send excepts of abstracts or
 papers, or whatever... it doesn't matter. So, same as I can resize the
 window for Pidgin itself, for Pidgin message windows, or for any other
 element on my screen (except, mostly, dialogs), I expect to be able to
 resize this input area to fit my particular needs.

 Note that I am not at all against an auto-resize feature or a new default
 size. But why, exactly, is it such a bad thing to just add the ability for
 the user to change the relative height of the input area in comparison to
 the rest of the window by dragging, as it was before? Is there some
 specific reason for the exclusion of that feature?
