height the input window gets "automatically", it will be the wrong size
 for some people.

That's funny. My exact problem was that having to manually change the
input area size means that it will almost '''always''' be the wrong size,
most of the time. Pidgin, right now, knows exactly how much room the input
area requires and gives it exactly that much. Why do you think it should
give more or less room that it requires (assuming the 4-line maximum is
 changed)?

 > The whole message window is resizeable not only because it is a window,
but because requirements of people differ. So do they for the input
window. Some people like to send short comments, others may post a
fragment of code, while still others want to send excepts of abstracts or
papers, or whatever... it doesn't matter. So, same as I can resize the
window for Pidgin itself, for Pidgin message windows, or for any other
element on my screen (except, mostly, dialogs), I expect to be able to
resize this input area to fit my particular needs.

Again, this sounds like the complaint is about the 4-line maximum. With
that removed, there shouldn't be any difference between you resizing the
input area to fit, or Pidign doing so? Rather, if you happen to go one
line more than you expected, Pidgin will take care of it, and once your
message is sent, you'll have the maximum amount of room to read your
incoming messages. Why should you micro-manage the input area to account
for the length of every message you send, when Pidgin can do it much
 better, for you?
