 ICQ chat partner: using pidgin 2.3.1 with encoding ISO-8859-1
 me: using pidgin 2.4.0 with encoding ISO-8859-1

 my chat partner sends me a message containing charcaters in old greek,
 probably not supported by ISO-8859-1?

 I then get a message saying (rough translation to English): "error
 receiving the message: either you and <ICQ number> have different
 encodings or <ICQ number> uses a deficient client.

 Could it be that the message does not correctly reflect the problem
 (sending characters that are not supported by the chosen encoding) or is
 the error message's German translation wrong?
 How can I overcome this problem? Set encoding to UTF-8?
