 When using mail check for gmail Pidgin shows the number of unread emails.
 When reconnected after the computer has been disconnected from the
 internet, Pidgin checks for mail again, and increases showing number with
 the number of unread mails it found, without checking if it already
 mentions those - so if you have four unread mails, it now displays eight,
 and after the next network hiccup twelve and so on.
 Don't know if it's only gmail but that's the only one I can check.
