So I just jumped from Windows Live Messenger into the world of Pidgin. I
finally had enough of the damn bloated WLM and the +50MB of memory it
reserves.
Pidgin seems quite nice and simple but there are some BUTs:[[BR]]
(I bet some of these are already requested many many times)
'''1)''' I miss the ''online/offline'' grouping option WLM has. I like to
have all my contacts in one alphabetically sorted list. With Pidgin there
is no way to get rid of the groups other than just deleting all but one
(in my case this not an option).
'''2)''' When I add an IRC channel I would like to have some kind of
visual notification of new messages next to the channel name. Make the
channel name change to bold and/or the number of new messages appear after
the name for example. Like: '''#pidgin (75)''' ...there could also be
option to make the channel pop up on new messages (maybe this is already
possible but I could not find it).
'''3)''' UI customization. I would like to be able to get rid of that huge
button and my avatar at the bottom... and the standard toolbar on the top
of the window. For example: - Replace the main toolbar with one single
'''''Pidgin''''' button (with nice pidgin logo on it) which opens up a
menu. - Move the online button and the avatar to top. - Add '''a simple
searchbar''' to the bottom to filter list items.
...these were the biggest annoyances I faced, otherwise Pidgin seems to do
it's job quite nicely and most importantly without hogging all my
resources.
