Comment (by rudidude86):

''It's about time we got those pesky users under control. While we're at
it, we should make '''entire windows''' unresizeable too! The window could
start with enough room for two lines of message history, then expand
itself the more you converse. Sure it wouldn't make any sense, but at
least we'd see fewer scroll bars! ''

But seriously, the whole auto-resize issue in 2.4 seems like a bad
solution to a problem no one had. I found it annoying enough to downgrade
 back to 2.3.1.

It's great that the dev's are trying to improve things, but this
drastically damages the user interface by removing key tools for adjusting
it. The ''best'' size for ''my'' text input box is whatever ''I'' set it
to, and the ''best'' size for ''Bob's'' text input box is whatever ''Bob''
sets it to, despite [comment:30 seanegan]'s insistence that he and the
other Pidgin devs can do a better job.

'''* The text input box feels extremely cramped for how I use IM[[BR]]
 * Dynamic resizing creates distracting and unnecessary UI noise '''

The best solution would be to completely revert to pre-2.4 text input
 behavior.

A so-so solution would be a min-height user pref (so I could make mine
something ridiculously larger than 2 to avoid auto-resizing completely).
