 There may actually be a real bug here, though not in pidgin (at least not
 directly). The only difference I can see between the auth response that
 worked and the one that didn't (ignoring the auth data which by definition
 changes) is the lack of charset="utf8" in the response from Cyrus. That
 shouldn't matter if the username and password are both US-ASCII but I
 can't say for sure.

 marty: Does your password by any chance include non-ascii characters? I
 would also be very curious to see the base64 response data from a non-
 pidgin client using SASL that works correctly.
