#5213: cyrus-SASL support breaks XMPP DIGEST-MD5 auth for jabberd2 with gSASL

Comment (by deryni):
When an authentication attempt fails because the server rejects the
attempt I'm pretty sure falling back to a different choice isn't the
correct thing to do.
Does JBother support DIGEST auth at all? If it doesn't that doesn't help
us much.
I want to see the SASL DIGEST success from another client to get another
data point for what gsasl seems to want in the digest response.
Comparing the Psi output to the working and non-working pidgin output I
continue to only see the charset=utf-8 difference, which as I said is not
mandatory (to the best of my knowledge). I would be curious to see if
manually unpacking the response data, adding charset=utf-8 on the end and
packing it back up in pidgin would allow the Cyrus code to work correctly
with gsasl. So if you are able to write the code for that and try it I
would be interested, if you can't maybe I'll find some time to write it
this week. Either way, it looks to me like gsasl and Cyrus don't get along
at the moment.
