 How can you choose to ignore number 3?  It's specifically the main point
 of this entire ticket.  Users want preferences and everyone is not going
 to agree on the format.  So it should be a settable preference instead of
 forced.  That is *exactly* what people want.

 For whatever reason, when I first receive an IM, there is NO box for me to
 type in - until I hit the first key and it resizes.  How can this be
 desired behavior?
