 The two line default is "visually jarring" for me, usability aside I've
 tried it for a couple days and can't get comfortable with it. I haven't
 tried it at different resolutions, I don't know that it'd make any
 difference.

 I get it if having options in the preferences for setting the min/max is
 unacceptable because it adds too many options for the user, and a single
 option to make the size manually controlled is as well.

 I don't see the reason to not put an option in the prefs.xml file to turn
 off automatic text box sizing though. You've got the new code and the old
 code, it's just an if right? I think that would make everyone that misses
 the old way happy, and the usability people still get a cleaner
 preferences dialog.
