Comment:

 Yeah, that sums it up more-or-less. The issue is that certain sasl
 authentication mechanisms require/use the fqdn of the server (potentially
 in addition to the jid domain of the server) in the auth response (for
 things like asking for Kerberos tokens or doing various other Single Sign
 On magic) and that without telling openfire about that it has to assume
 that the fqdn is the same as the domain (thus breaking the client which
 knows they are different).

 Sorry if I had a condescending tone in my previous post, it was
 unintentional and not directed at you.
