 ahh but what you do not realize is just as with the protocol icons, this
 was an option that should be considered, and your user base is asking for
 the "option" forward thinking is also about not forgetting past features
 that arguably a large number of users would like to at least have the
 option to use.

 If you were so inclined to let all of this be relegated to plugins, why
 did you bother including the protocol icon mod? because the users wanted
 it. My earlier statement still applies, it seems that something so simple
 is beyond the purple team's ability to code and thus they allow others to
 do the work for them.

 users like forward thinking but also do not like being ignored either, and
 not many if any have asked for the new typing indicator method to be
 removed, we simply want the old indicator as an option.
