Comment (by stuporglue):
Hi, I got 2.4 today or yesterday in Ubuntu Hardy and am '''very'''
displeased with the fixed sized tiny input box.
The previous behavior was optimal. '''I''' chose the size, and then it
could scroll within that size if needed.
I use GAIM for many purposes including chatting with family and for
working one-on-one with other developers. In either of these cases I
frequently send multi-line messages. When sending multi-line messages I
wish to make sure that they look correct, whether that is an anecdote
about my kid, or a code snipped which I've wrapped across multiple lines
for clarity.
This is a regression in functionality and as such should be considered a
bug.
A tiny dynamically expanding text area might be *neat* from a programming
perspective, but it certainly hampers real world use for quite a lot of
users (at least judging by the number of people who bothered to get
accounts here just to post on this issue).
In UI design you need to know, and program for, your users. I suppose that
if you ignore them, soon they'll no longer be your users.
Please fix this soon.
