 If you set a message by hand then the input area stays open and you can
 just type to change your message. It would likely be a good idea to have
 the input area reappear if you open and close the dropdown menu without
 selecting a new status (the same way it does if you reselect the same
 status) and probably also to have it automatically open up if you just
 start typing. Both of those are valid feature requests. And yes, it can be
 a big deal if you are signed online before you finish typing your status
 message or before you set one at all, the chances are small but they do
 exist. I really don't understand why simply hitting Enter to avoid the
 wait is not an acceptable solution to this, especially in the logging in
 case (if you are going to be talking to people you need to be using the
 keyboard anyway so I really don't see the harm in requiring an Enter
 keypress since more will be coming). Note: I'm not saying I think we
 should be requiring an extra(neous) keypress just that given the issues
 involved I think the cost is relatively minor. Feel free to file a new
 ticket for the open/close and start typing features.
