 I'm not sure if this is specific to the XMPP protocol, but setting a chat
 room topic to a string containing a < causes the only the text before the
 < to become the topic. This is also the same for Adium so the bug may be
 in libpurple.

 To reproduce:

 1. enter a XMPP chatroom where you can change the topic
 2. enter a topic like: "Hurrah for <![CDATA["

 Expected result:
 Topic gets set to "Hurrah for <![CDATA["

 Actual result:
 Topic gets set to "Hurrah for "
