Comment:

 Pidgin is very much sending the PLAIN auth mechanism, does Exodus have an
 xml/debug console from which you can get the xml for a successful login?
 Something to compare against and see what the server is in fact expecting.

 Also, you appear to have your xmpp account in pidgin set up as a Google
 Talk account which may be confusing your server (it shouldn't be but some
 servers are less forgiving than others). Try switching to a normal xmpp
 account in pidgin and seeing if that helps.
