 fixed by updating GTK+ files for windows
 [http://www.gtk.org/download-windows.html]
 default location is "C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\bin"

 I updated
 glib to 2.16.3
 Cairo to 1.6.4

 Have not experienced the crash in over 20 days of constant running.
