 In the comment on the postponed strings for this you wrote " The window
 has to be made resizable, and the scrollbars in the scrolled window
 enabled only after setting the desired size of the window. If we do either
 of these tasks before now, GTK+ miscalculates the required size, and
 erronously makes one or both scrollbars visible (sometimes)."....AFAICS,
 they do in your screenshot....so maybe the hack doesn't work....moreover,
 if this is related to the window manager, as you suggested, this makes the
 feature available only for *nix and not win. There must be a way of
 settling things right for both systems....
