 Try running `pidgin -n` to prevent it logging in when it starts up and
 then disable all plugins before logging in to see if that helps.

 If that doesn't you can try reinstalling GTK+ (standalone GTK+ installer
 available from http://www.sf.net/projects/pidgin)
