 Thanks for the patch!

 I committed most of the short patch, subject to my previous comment. The
 MSN directconn.c change in the short patch looks suspect to me as well so
 I didn't commit that.

 I looked at the longer patch. Can you explain the libpurple/cmds.h
 changes, please?

 You also have a change with _XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED in a couple places in
 libgnt. Is that still necessary for you? Can you explain why you dropped
 the "#if defined(__APPLE__) || defined(__unix__)"?

 I would love it if you could check out a copy of MTN head and see what
 changes are needed to make it compile.
