 I had the same problem. It seems that it was a problem with GTK. Things
 started to work again only after I manually cleansed my Windows Machine
 from GTK (removed registry entries and deleted files in
 %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\GTK) and reinstalled pidgin with GTK included.
