 I'm pretty sure a plugin could do this at runtime. That is the plugin
 would load each specified theme, extract the per-protocol bits, stitch
 them all together and either write out a merged theme that is selected
 normally (or if this is possible/easier) just tell pidgin to use the
 smiley theme data it stitched together.

 Alternatively of course, a script could just be written to merge the
 different sections of the files externally to pidgin which would simplify
 the stitching-together process across theme updates.
