 When running a copy of pidgin compiled with CFLAGS="-g -O2 -fstack-
 protection" (standard ubuntu compile flags) and trying to connect to an
 XMPP server using the "Force old (port 5223) SSL" setting, pidgin exits
 due to a stack smashing bug.

 The bug is due to an undersized character array in auth_old_cb in
 libpurple/protocols/jabber/auth.c.

 I've put together a patch for this defect - will attach.
