Comment:
I doubt that WLM defaults to not allowing anyone not on the buddy list to
contact a person, but I fully expect that it does default to only allowing
people on the allow list to contact the user. This is a perfectly fine
decision, as is allowing the user to choose to only allow people on the
buddy list. MSN (the protocol) however does not such an option and
requires the user to manage the separate allow list (which tends to be
almost identical to the buddy list because of how the two interact).
None of those facts though has any real bearing on the issue at hand,
which is that if you select the correct privacy mode in pidgin you should
be able to get MSN to prevent you from being messaged by people not on
your allow list. If, after making sure your MSN account is set to 'allow
only those below' you still find yourself getting messaged by people who
aren't on that list you should file a bug about that (or indicate that
here and re-purpose this ticket).
I had not previously looked at the attached images, assuming they were
just images of conversations with people not on the buddy list. If in fact
this ticket is about the fact that bot sentry causes error messages then
yes this is likely a duplicate of #6604.
Either way, I am going to close this pending indication that I have
misunderstood something or the privacy settings are in fact not working as
they are supposed to.
