 I found a thread on [http://www.nabble.com/GTK%2B-crashing-on-application-
 startup---WinXP-td19594373.html nabble] that seems to suggest multiple
 copies of GTK+ being the culprit, but the OP never responded with the
 solution. A bug against [http://www.mail-archive.com/wireshark-
 bugs at wireshark.org/msg05942.html wireshark] shows the same problem, and
 the OP said a trip through Windows Update, re-installation of wireshark,
 and re-installation of GTK+ fixed it up.

 Datallah may know a more direct fix, but I'd uninstall Pidgin, uninstall
 any other programs dependent on GTK+, uninstall GTK+, then install Pidgin
 2.5.2 with GTK+ to see if it works.

 If it's still failing after all that, what display resolution and color
 depth (bits per pixel) are you using? If you change to a different
 resolution and/or color depth, does the problem continue? Does the folder
 "c:\Users\<USERNAME>\!AppData\Local\!VirtualStore\Program Files\Common
 Files\GTK\2.0" exist, and if so, what files are within it?
