Comment:

 We should probably attempt the png conversion and when the converted image
 still fits the size guidelines we should probably use it, but when it
 doesn't we should allow jpg and gif images. Support for png is mandatory,
 support for jpg and gif is not (per the XEP). I don't know that pidgin
 currently supports this sort of thing though, so we may just want to allow
 for any of them as-is and keep this open for later.
