Comment(by tarasus):

Just tried to build version 2.5.2 on Solaris 10 x86.
Now I can't do anything at all: it stops functioning already on the
"configure" stage. It wants GNU gettext - I had one of them (0.14.1) -
when configuring it shows me an error
 --- cut --
 checking for a BSD-compatible install... ./install-sh -c
 checking for xgettext... /usr/bin/xgettext
 checking for msgmerge... /usr/local/bin/msgmerge
 checking for msgfmt... /usr/bin/msgfmt
 /usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- version
 Usage: xgettext [-a [-x exclude-file]] [-jns][-c comment-tag]
         [-d default-domain] [-m prefix] [-M suffix] [-p pathname] files
 ...
           xgettext -h
     ERROR: Cannot open file --version.
configure: error: GNU gettext tools not found; required for intltool
 --- end of cut ---
If in the previous times all process stopped during the building procedure
(when I did "make")? now it is not configuring...
I tried to get newer version of gettext. Downloaded that from gnu.org
(last version - 0.17), installed - result is the same.
