 The Font dropdown Bold option is setting outgoing formatting, and as I
 indicated that is not the correct way to change your local font for your
 own ease of reading. The correct way to do that is to change the theme
 font.

 What you are seeing is likely pidgin not resetting the formatting to your
 defaults after you paste something with formatting (something from pidgin
 itself, something from your browser, etc.) which is why pasting as plain
 text avoids the issue. You can also hit ctrl-r after pasting (which is
 Reset Formatting) which should restore your default bold setting and
 should be a bit quicker than right-clicking and using paste as plain text.

 But again I would like to stress that sending outgoing formatting on
 messages because you want to see a different font for yourself locally is
 not the correct way to do that.
