 I think I made the same 'flip' suggested, and it works! All status
 messages are being retrieved successfully now (except maybe from  some
 third-party clients like Trillian). What I changed in oscar.c:

   * Handle away, occupied, dnd, etc. messages like AIM available messages.
 It doesn’t break fetching status messages which has always been working.
 Status messages seem always to be plain text.
   * Do not call `aim_icq_getstatusnote` in oscar.c anymore (it is being
 called twice in libpurple/2.5.2). I just deleted the calls.

 After that, status messages do not disappear anymore after some seconds,
 also #4984 and #4981 are fixed at the same time.
