 This particular issue should be fixed in recent GTK+ runtime versions.

 2.5.2 shipped with GTK+ 2.12.12

 You may have misunderstood one of the installer questions (that is
 arguably more confusing than it should be) and prevented the update from
 occurring.

 You can download the standalon 2.12.12 installer from
 [http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pidgin/gtk-runtime-2.12.12-rev-a.exe
 here] - see if that fixes the problem.
