 The location where you have talk.google.com set on the advanced page in
 the account dialog *is* the Connect Server, look at the field label
 (assuming you are not using a translated interface).

 pidgin doesn't set the Connect Server itself anymore (though I think it
 might have for Google Talk accounts a very short while).

 I don't believe pidgin looks up the _jabber SRV record anymore, though
 this might arguably be a bug. The SRV record (as per the
 [http://xmpp.org/rfcs/rfc3920.html#rfc.section.14.3 rfc]) is _xmpp-client.
