 every time i try to upgrade i get the following error:
 E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to
 correct the problem.
 E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

 i try running this command but it says i need SU priveledges and i cannot
 seem to log in as SU with my password even though i am the administrator
 and the one that installed the software to begin with.
