Comment:

 You're not able to connect to contacts.msn.com, which is preventing Pidgin
 from being able to retrieve your buddy list.  This is an important step in
 the login process.

 If you run the command 'telnet contacts.msn.com 443' does that time out
 too or does it just sit there with a completely blank terminal window?
