#7630: AIM does not correctly handle < character in status messages
---------------------------+------------------------------------------------
 Reporter: greatcaffeine | Owner: MarkDoliner
     Type: defect | Status: new
Component: AIM | Version: 2.5.2
 Keywords: aim, <, < |
---------------------------+------------------------------------------------
In Pidgin or Finch 2.5.2, the < character is not handled correctly when
used in a status message. When the character is used, all text which
follows does not show up at all. If I had to guess, I would say that
libpurple recognizes < as the start of an HTML tag, not as a regular text
 character.

A temporary workaround is to use the < string, although this is not the
best solution. Also of note is that when the < character is used in a
status message from a client using the official OSCAR protocol (iChat in
this case), libpurple interprets the character as < and not as <.

Please let me know if any clarifications or extra details are necessary.
