 Aside from that error message looking broken to me (at least according to
 the most recent version of the non-sasl auth xep, which is itself
 retracted as non-sasl auth is deprecated at this point). We likely
 shouldn't allow empty resources with non-sasl authentication attempts.

 Does the dreamhost server advertise the resource binding feature in the
 stream features stanza ("<bind xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-
 bind'>")?
