 On Windows, you can use alt-sequences to enter 8-bit/unicode characters,
 e.g., alt-0231 = ç, alt-0214 = Ö.

 However, Pidgin does not support this in the field in the chat window
 where you enter your message, preventing the entry of, for example,
 international names. When trying to use an alt-sequence, nothing happens.

 Cut'n'paste such characters from external programs works fine though.
