 My network setup allows direct outgoing connections to all ports EXCEPT 80
 and 443. The proxy allows only HTTP connections to these two ports. Thus,
 HTTP traffic MUST go through the proxy, everything else MUST NOT use the
 proxy.

 I figured out how kopete does the connection: It does exactly what I
 described above. I configured a HTTP proxy in KDE, which is used for HTTP
 connections. Other traffic goes directly to the internet.

 Please find attached the kopete tcp dump, which I made during connecting
 to MSN.
