#7339: When using long status titles, the Preferences Window gets very, VERY wide,
even wider than the screen

Reporter: Damage Inc. | Type: defect
Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
 Version: 2.5.0 | Keywords: status title,status,long
------------------------+---------------------------------------------------
Sometimes i prefer to use certain quotes as status titles. I know this is
not what status titles were made for but... I like it that way.

These quotes can get very long. By now I sometimes use this one for
 "Available":

''"Special note: If someone tells you to RTFM, they are not, repeat NOT,
being rude or getting at you. This is the accepted phrase indicating that
you need to Read The Friendly Manual. If you have previously been told
that a certain Old Low Dutch word is referred to by the 'F', please be
assured that this is just a myth :-)"

 (taken from "Linux from scratch")''

This leads to the following problem:
The preferences window, Tab "Status" contains a dropdown list for the
 initial status when pidgin starts.
If I select the above status title here, the prefs window width grows way
larger than the screen size to fit the whole status title into one line in
the dropdown list. I have drag it to the left several times just to get
the "Close" Button into the visible screen area :-)

I've encountered a similar behaviour in another dialog I don't remember at
 the moment.

My suggestion for both incidents is to shorten the status title for
dropdown lists to a usable length, say 30 characters? That would be enough
to identify a selection without exploding windows :-)
