 Following my tentative patch on #7416, I think the correct solution is
 having some kind of irc_mask_status() function which will do the stripping
 in one place. If you consider this a good option for this ticket and
 #7416, I'll try and make a patch to sort both in one go.
 Of course, this doesn't deal with the possibility of having a new
 WALLCHOPS command, but that isn't really important to me, as I already
 have a workaround I'm willing to use.
