 I moved your mode-skipping code from #7416 to a function named
 irc_nick_skip_mode and committed it.  You can use that function (available
 in mtn; see UsingPidginMonotone -- I can provide you a patch if you like)
 to implement this.

 Thanks for helping out!  It's always gratifying to toss out "I'd take a
 patch for that" and get back a patch the next day.  ;-)
