 I have a group which contains buddies who are online. If I uncheck "show
 empty groups" (if I make it so that empty groups are hidden), this group
 containing an ''online'' buddy becomes hidden, so I can no longer see the
 buddy.  Does anyone know why this is?

 I'm running Ubuntu 8.04, and according to Synaptic, my installed version
 is 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1.
